(5) North Window
The north window is also the work of Swedish artist, Carl Almquist, who was a friend of Axel Haig.
The window depicts the risen Christ flanked by angels and below them, the sleeping guards outside the tomb .
The words are taken from The Gospel of John Chapter 11 verses 23 and 25a "Thy brother shall rise again.", "I am the resurrection and the life".
The roundel continues with verses 25b - 26 "he that believeth in me, though he were dead, yet shall he live:
And whosoever liveth and believeth in me shall never die."
The window is dedicated "To the honour & glory of God an in sacred memory of Knobel Le B du Gue who passwed away at St Leonards on Sea on 22nd August 1890. This window is placed by his most loving sister N O H Harman". Nina du Gue, known as Mrs Harman, had arranged for the window to be placed in the North Transept in memory of her brother Louis Benjamin before her untimely death in 1902. The window was not completed until 1904.
