Rev J S Leake was the first appointed vicar to Grayswood and served the parish for 29 years.
A stone tablet in his memory was placed in the chancel.
"In remembrance of John Sherlock Lake MA | Born 21 March 1869 | Died 28 November 1934 | First Vicar of Grayswood 1900 - 1929 Placed here by his parishioners as a token of affection and gratitude for his untiring work and devotion in the parish. In Thy presence is the fulness of joy"
He is buried in the churchyard and his gravestone is inscribed "To the beloved memory of John Sherlock Leake died 28th November 1934| First Vicar of Grayswood 1900 - 1929 during these years the parish was formed and the church, vicarage and schools were built. |Also Helena Isabel, his wife 30th May 1949| We Work by faith and not by sight"
