Access Appraisal

Access to the Church

  • There are two gates into the churchyard.
    There is a dropped kerb by the lower double gate which has wider, level access.
    There is a small step at the lych gate (the covered gate).
  • The path from the pavement to the church is bonded gravel. This surface is suitable for all users, including pushchairs, wheelchairs and other mobility aids.
  • There is a ramp up to the main door of church with stepless entry into the aisle. Please note there is a small lip to the edge of the ramp from the path.
  • The church does not have a car park. The nearest parking is in the Village Hall Car Park opposite the church. Care needs to be taken crossing the road which can be busy at times. There is no designated crossing point.

Inside the Church

  • The church flooring is the original Victorian parquet flooring and is even. The church is a listed building.
  • There is a wheelchair space near the font at the back of church if you wish to remain seated throughout the service.
  • There is also space at the back of church to leave a folded wheelchair or pushchair.
  • At the end of the aisle (in the Nave) there is one step, without handrail, up to the choir section but a portable metal ramp is stored in front of the first right hand pew beneath the pulpit.

Accessible Toilet

  • There is an accessible toilet off the North Transept at this level i.e up the Nave step, turn left after the Choir Stalls.

Access to the Choir Vestry

  • There is stepless entry to the choir vestry from the Nave of the church (turn right after the Choir Stalls). The old Vestry door is only suitable for narrow manual wheelchairs.
  • From outside, there are four large steps with a single handrail to the choir vestry porch and then a further internal step to the choir vestry.

Holy Communion

  • Communion is served at the altar rail at the chancel step. If you wish to partake of Communion at the altar rail, please ask a sidesperson to put the ramp in place before the service starts.  Alternatively Holy Communion can be brought to your pew – please ask the sidesperson to inform the priest.
  • Gluten free wafers are available on request.

Accessing the Service

  • A loop system is installed.
  • Large print hymn books are available - please ask the sidesperson. Service booklets can be downloaded from the website to be viewed on a handheld device.
  • Sunday morning services are livestreamed via zoom

Coffee after the Service

  • After the Sunday Service, refreshments are served in the Grayswood Village Hall.
  • The Village Hall has stepless entry and an accessible toilet.

Special Services and Events; Church Meetings

  • Church meetings (such as PCC) are held in the church and on zoom
    Church events are held in the church or village hall.
  • At some special services and events, refreshments are served in church (in the North Transept). At the end of the aisle (in the Nave) there is one step, without handrail, up to the choir section but a portable metal ramp is stored in front of the first right hand pew beneath the pulpit.
